2022 Las Vegas Mayor's Cup Schedules Released

Schedules were posted yesterday for the 2022 Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup International Showcase.

We open up against what appears to be one of the strongest teams in the event, the CCV Stars from Arizona.

I’m basing this off their team rankings on GotSoccer, yet I know these rankings aren’t 100% trustworthy as teams can accumulate more ranking points by choosing to play event after event. Yes, the team has to do well in these events, but ranked events don’t always draw top competition, and a decent team can rack up a lot of points - especially in warmer-climate areas of the country where tournaments are plentiful throughout the year or in densely-populated areas like the east coast.

Add into this mix that now as an ECNL team, our competition comes mainly in ECNL league play and ECNL showcases, both of which don’t earn points for GotSoccer’s rankings.

What the rankings do allow me to do is research recent team performance and see match-ups against opponents we may have come up against. For example, likely the strongest team in the event, Las Vegas Surf Select (NV) beat the SoCal Blues ECNL (Cal South) in September 2-1. SoCal beat Michigan Hawks (MI) in a fall ECNL showcase something like 6-0 in October.

And Hawks beat us 1-0.

Yeah.

Love to come up against the Vegas team, and we will if we find a way to somehow win our group.
